MORE than 1,000 people gathered in Ebbw Vale on Saturday for the third annual classic bus show in the town centre.

Double and single decker buses from across Gwent and South Wales from years gone by were on display for locals to explore on Saturday.

Despite the temperamental weather, the day was a success, with around 15 buses from Cardiff, Swansea and Cwmbran bus firms turning up to the event.

The oldest bus said to be dating back to 1945, named as a ‘Red and White Guy’ double decker by organiser Phil Edwards.

Mr Edwards said: was delighted with the success of the day and hopes it will become a week-long event next year to encourage people to visit the town.

“More than a thousand people of all ages have turned out to the event today (July 19),”. he said.

“The town is full- it is not a busy as it was last year because of the weather, but I am very pleased with the way it has gone.”

The free event featured a variety of entertainment including an owl sanctuary, Topper Dance Group where children aged between three and 14 performed in the town, along with Jaguar Dance Group.

The classic bus show also saw performances by the Ebbw Vale Male Choir, while the Ebbw Vale Camera Club and Arts Club also made an appearance.

“One bus has a radio control unit where people can speak to friends around the world and there is free bus and train rides for the children,” Mr Edwards added.

“There is also an art exhibition and craft stalls so there is plenty going on.

“The event is important for getting people into the town ad increasing the footfall.”
