TORFAEN Play Service is running its annual summer playscheme programme in the summer holidays and in preparation for this a training week was held at Fairwater High School.
Taking part in the training run by Torfaen Play Service were more than 200 staff, the majority volunteers.
Participants were able to learn new skills such as games, arts and crafts, first aid, dealing with children and team work.
Torfaen Play Service will now be running 32 play schemes across Torfaen ranging from the north of the borough in Blaenavon to the south in Ponthir.
Staff will be running activities such as sports, group games, arts and crafts, face painting, dance, cooking and many more. Additional support is available for children and young people with disabilities. Parents and carers are required to register on the first day of play schemes and complete and sign a ‘statement of purpose’ document detailing the terms and conditions of the open access procedure.
All day play scheme sites are specifically for children aged 8 to12 years, while sessions that run for less than two hours are for children aged five years and above.
Watching the training last week was the mayor of Torfaen, Councillor Mandy Owen, and the leader of the council, cllr Bob Wellington.
