THE MP for Islwyn believes that war veterans are being let down after a new report shows they are three and a half times more likely to have hearing problems than other members of the public.
Chris Evans MP expressed fears that veterans were being overlooked after the Royal British Legion released a report calling for more support for the hearing impaired.
Mr Evans said: “I find it deeply concerning that so many veterans and members of our Armed Forces have hearing problems from their service, and yet they are not prioritised for treatment.”
The MP said he would like to see special consideration given to those with hearing difficulties.
“The fact that they are not receiving special treatment means they are being let down by the government.
“As a society we have done a lot to support those who are serving or have served for our country, but there is still so much more to do.
“I would urge the government to consider the findings of this report and work with the Royal British Legion to achieve the recommendations.”
