NEWPORT creative enterprise The Project Space launched a new series of workshops aiming to get young people into arts.
The week-long workshop event called Urban Circle Summer Jam has already seen dozens of young people aged 13 to 25 years old come together to participate in activities including DJing and fashion designing.
The space which opened in April was part of a council-led initiative to utilise empty shops in the city centre.
Last week the sessions were led by Urban Circle, a Newport youth organisation which aims to support and empower young people.
Project Space manager Sally Evans was delighted at the amount of young people already taking part in the workshops on offer.
“The free workshops have already seen around 15 to 20 people a day turn up.
“We have various experts such as Liz Orford who is leading the fashion workshops, where young people get to have a go at designing and making.
“As well as Gareth Leaman who will run workshops teaching people how to MC, and Talieh Webb who will also be teaching how to streetdance.”
Loren Morris, the co-ordinator of the Summer Jam event has targeted the workshops at the 13 plus, but there are activities available for younger children.
