A NINETEETH century micro brewery and former stable in Abergavenny could be converted into residential accommodation if planners give the go-ahead on Tuesday.
The application at 150 St Helens Road has been recommended for approval by officers and relates to an existing split-level brick building that officers believe was built at the end of the 19th Century or beginning of the 20th Century as a microbrewery.
When it was built the railway line and yards were alongside it and it is still possible to see painted lettering on the side of the building advertising the brewery to rail passengers.
Since the removal of the railway, the building has only been used as a stable on the lower ground floor level and for storage above.
It is now proposed to convert the building into habitable accommodation while retaining the original character of the building, which is within the Abergavenny Conservation Area.
The application is being presented to the committee at the request of the local member, says the officer's report.
Four neighbours have objected on the grounds that there is no existing vehicle access to the property from St Helens Road; the garden wall that is to be removed belongs to 140 St Helens Road; it could "devalue property"; inconvenience due to amount of work required to make the building habitable; and an increase in traffic would impact on child safety.
