A BOY was taken to hospital last night after he was 'impaled on metal fence post', it was said by emergency services.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the boy - believed to be 14 - injured at a pen used to turn out ponies at the Nurseries Farm off Treherbert Road on Wednesday evening [July 30].
A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said he had been 'impaled on metal fence post'.
Farm workers at the scene said it was caused by a spike 'used to put up electric fences to restrict the movement of animals'.
The farm is situated near the Sunnydale Garden Centre and Gwent Crematorium on Treherbert Road.
South Wales Fire Service said that crews from Malpas and New Inn attended the incident after 8pm and used hydraulic cutting equipment to rescue the boy.
The Welsh Ambulance Service also attended the incident and took the injured boy to Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport but could not provide details of his injuries.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said in an official statement: “At 8.03pm last night, Wednesday 30 July, we were called to reports a young male had impaled his leg on a spike in the Croesyceiliog area of Cwmbran.
“A crew in an emergency ambulance attended, and a boy was taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital.”
