FRIENDS of a Cwmbran biker who died after a crash on the A449 held a ride-out and charity event yesterday in his memory.

The event, organised by customers and staff at South Wales Superbikes in Newport, was held to remember 60-year-old Kevin Morgan, who died on June 21 while riding his white Kawasaki motorcycle.

Yesterday morning, 70 bikers rode from Newport to Abergavenny to Usk to Tintern and back before enjoying an afternoon of entertainment.

Bands such as Broken Heroes, The Decoy and GTFBI performed and there was a bouncy castle, face painting and DJ.

Mr Morgan’s family also unveiled a bench outside the Newport bike shop bought by customers and staff in his memory.

A similar ride-out was held before the motorcyclist’s funeral on July 5, which was attended by more than 500 mourners.

Mr Morgan was born in Brynmawr and and married his wife Anna, of Cwmbran, on October 29, 1983. They had three children, Gavin, Dean and Melissa, and lived together at their family home in Hollybush for more than 30 years.

Organiser of the event, Sarah Holmes, said: “The ride-out was fantastic. It was a really good turn-out.

“We decided to get a bench made and someone said ‘why don’t we do a barbecue for charity’ and it just turned into a massive event.

“Kevin was involved in the Teenage Cancer Trust and Make a Wish so we chose to raise money for them.

“He used to come up every day to Superbikes. He was a keen cyclist too and a good friend of everyone who would ride with him. He was like family.”
