THE National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon will be hosting Be an Emperor for the Day on August 19 which marks 2,000 years since the first Roman Emperor, Augustus died.
They will be holding a craft workshop to wear a toga, make head wreaths and coins from 11am-5pm.
Visitors to the museum during August can also come and take part in the prize Roman trail around the Museum and garden from until August 21 or come and meet the everyday Romans from the cook, doctor and soldiers.
A Roman re-enactment will take place on August 23 and 24 at Caerleon Amphitheatre and the museum from 11am-5pm. Free runners, fire eaters, jugglers and dancers will also be in the arena.
Dai Price, museum manager, said: “We’re really looking forward to August, it’s going to a busy and enjoyable month for us and for visitors. Augustus is one of the few historical individuals who can genuinely be said to have changed the world around him but he is not as widely known as other Emperors and leaders such as Nero, Julius Caesar and Caligula. So this is a perfect opportunity for visitors to find out more about him.
“And we are delighted to be putting the Roman Spectacular on again over a whole weekend in August. Come and step back in time to see life 2,000 years ago and have an activity packed day out for all the family; there’s something for everyone, from sword fighting to shopping - or just sit back and be amazed at the action in the Amphitheatre. There’s so much to see and do – it’s a great value day out.”
Entry to the National Roman Legion Museum, is free.
