LETTERS were returning to Newport Argus readers from the Front expressing thanks for the Christmas puddings that had been sent. One letter stated ‘there are six of us to share it, if we are alive to eat it at Christmas, which I hope we shall be’.
A meeting was held at Newport Athletic Club and the mayor introduced Colonel King Hunter, who had travelled down from his Brecon headquarters to explain exactly what the War Office wanted in the way of recruiting.
At a meeting of the Newport corporation parliamentary and improvement committee, it was noted that the river at the Lysaght works was in danger of flooding, and an offer from a local firm had been made towards the expense of repair work.
Great interest was aroused in a case at Newport county court in which a Llanfrechfa man sued the army council for £100, alleged to be the balance due for two horses commandeered by the army.
