SO FAR SO GOOD: The St Julian's Community Healthy Living Centre Association has had its first success by securing an Awards for All Wales grant of £4,890 from the Big Lottery for trampoline equipment and gym mats.
The equipment will be for community use for all ages. The association hopes this is a good omen as it waits to hear the outcome of its million-pound bid for the building of a Community Healthy Living Centre at the rear of St Julian's School.
TY HAFAN:Two pupils of St Julian's Junior School, Lauren and Adam Jones, decorated and lit up the outside of their Elaine Crescent house and made a collection for the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice for Wales.
The youngsters are to be congratulated on donating £84.53 to Ty Hafan. Well done, Lauren and Adam.
CHRISTMAS TAGS APPEAL: Vera Lewis had the brilliant idea of asking members of St Julian's Methodist Church to give her their old Christmas cards. She then makes gift tags out of them and sells them, including to the people who gave the cards to her in the first place!
In this way she is able to donate to the Bobath Children's Therapy Centre, which this year benefited by £86.
Well done, Vera. Keep up the good work.
W.A.L.K: Newport Health Board's WALK Project has published the programme of led walks for February, March and April.
It features 25 walks of varying vigour - easy, moderate and hard, on Mondays and Thursdays.
As usual, the walks include parks, riverside and canal locations, but there are also specials, like the starling roost at the Wetlands. For full details contact Denise Cox at 01633 261 437 or 261 443.
