The Five Villages - Brynawel, Cwmfelinfach, Wattsville, Wyllie, Ynysddu Cwmfelinfach Primary: The school is very excited to be involved in the forthcoming Caerphilly Choral Project, where pupils in Mr Maloney and Mr Hollifeild's classes will be tutored in singing skills by a member of the Music Support Service.
A small number of pupils will be selected to sing in a Caerphilly-wide choir at St David's Hall in March.
Year 6 children have visited Pontllanfraith Comprehensive and spent time in design and technology and took part in some games in the school's sports hall.
The purpose of the trip was to give the children an opportunity to see what a comprehensive school looks like before they leave the primary school this year. They all had a fabulous day.
CheerLeaders Group: Everyone has fun in the class run by Keeley Kendall at the Cwmfelinfach Community Centre on Tuesdays from 5pm to 7pm and Sundays from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
It's £1.25 per session and this is a very successful class, which has been running for three years.
The troupe has appeared in many local carnivals and displays. Ages from three-years-old and upwards can participate.
New Classes at Sardis: A new computer and digital photography class is starting at the Sardis Community Hall on Mondays from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Keep fit and Welsh are still going and will be open for new members after the half term break.
Starting shortly will be new sessions of icing sugar craft and flower arranging.
Just call in for details - there is always someone at the hall who can give you some information. For those who do not know, the Sardis Community Hall is right next to Ynysddu Primary School.
Cwmfelinfach Allotments Association: It is a time for turning over the ground and growing things in glasshouses for the allotment holders.
With the spring coming, things will soon change. Eleanor Morgan, secretary of the club, says the allotment committee will be meeting in late February/early March and things will start moving.
There are some available plots and they are always glad to welcome new members who will make an effort to work the land.
It is hard work but very rewarding - no matter what they say, there is no taste like freshly picked homegrown produce. For those who want details, call Eleanor on 01495 200767.
C-Y-T Care Home: Singer Des Anderson entertained the residents and guests at the Craig Y Trwyn Care Home, in Brynawel, with his repertoire, which ranged from Tom Jones to hymns.
The residents joined in the singing and had a great afternoon. Another afternoon's entertainment is planned on February 27.
New Fencing: New fencing continues to be erected in the valley.
Metal railings have been installed on the riverside of the bend on the B4251 at the bottom of Wyllie.
The fencing on this stretch of road has been down for some time at a point where the river runs alongside the road.
There was very little to stop a car that might come off the road plunging down into the river.
Local residents have welcomed the renewal of the safety fencing.
Cwmfelinfach Residents Association: A social evening to mark on your calendar and not to be missed is a visit from artist Peter Lawrence, from Tintern, on Friday, February 23, at 7pm in the Community Hall. He will be demonstrating painting techniques.
The monthly coffee morning went ahead as usual, despite the first really bad snowfall of the year.
In total, 14 hardy residents battled through the snow to the Community Hall.
It was worth it to celebrate two birthdays with a gateau and wine.
LSVP: The Lower Sirhowy Valley Partnership is meeting on Monday, February 26, at 6.30pm in the Cwmfelinfach Community Centre.
The partnership creates an opportunity for community-minded people to meet regularly, swap ideas and meet representatives from all local public and voluntary bodies.
