DRAGON SPORTS: Every Tuesday at Newport YMCA between 4pm and 5pm. Come along and join the other boys and girls aged between seven and 11 years of age trying to improve their cricket skills. The session has no charge.
HOCKEY: If you want to learn new skills, make friends and have fun, come along to Newport YMCA every Wednesday and play hockey with other seven- to 11-year- olds from the area.
There is no charge to participate and the coaching is delivered by Sporttrain. Boys and girls welcome.
PILL GIRLS/LADIES' AFC: The waiting is almost over. The Pill girls aged between seven and 12 have been training for ten months, and now they have their first match against Cwmbran Celtic, (an established team of many years).
This will hopefully be the first of many matches for the girls before the Newport and District Girls League starts in September 2007.
So all you football fans in Pill, come along to Pill fields on March 18 at noon and cheer on the girls. For more information contact Simon Lu on 07908729316.
YOUTH CLUB: Pill is very lucky to have such a thriving youth club. The youth club is based at the Newport YMCA and is open every Monday and Tuesday between 6pm and 8pm.
So all you youngsters in the area who are between 11 and 18 years of age, come along and enjoy various activities including sports, arts and crafts, dance, etc, or just come along and hang out and meet new friends.
CARNIVAL TALKS: The carnival committee met to organise the carnival (August bank holiday Monday). Councillor Ron Jones attended the meeting, (good to see you, Ron), Mandy from Community First also came and announced a project she has running which will give you the chance to learn how to make films.
There is to be a film made of how the carnival is put together, including the pram race, the carnival queen competition and the carnival day itself.
You will learn to video, edit and set the film to music. Contact Mandy at Community First, Pill library, if you are interested.
The next meeting is on March 19 at 6pm, Alex pub.
We will soon be changing the meeting-place to the Pill Millennium Centre, we will let you know when.
On a lighter note, we learned from Councillor Jones that Pill has the least number of ASBO orders in Newport.
