THE RSPCA is appealing for information about a dead cat after it was seen being swung by its legs and stamped on in Newport.

A concerned member of the public contacted the RSPCA after the cat was heard screaming. A man, who was with two teenagers, was seen swinging and stamping on the cat at the common off Walden Grange Close, Newport on March 29.

The caller later went to look for the cat after hearing what had happened, and found the cat dead.

RSPCA acting chief inspector Emma Smith said: “According to the account we have received this poor cat suffered a horrific ordeal.

“The cat had extreme injuries which may be linked to a dog attack so it could be that the cat was already in this condition when found by these people.

“Alternatively, they may be responsible for the injuries.”

The RSPCA said they have a limited description on the three men and no CCTV images. The man is believed to be in his late 30s.

The RSPCA is appealing for information. ACI Smith said: “The cat, an unneutered male, was not chipped or wearing a collar so we can’t identify the owner.

“We are appealing for the owner of the cat as he probably is being missed by someone.”

Anyone who may have information about this incident should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
