MORE than 150 people took the chance to try out the new facilities at Cwmbran Stadium as part of its £2million revamp yesterday.
Torfaen Leisure Trust invited the public to view the first phase of its new development on the site.
The new activities on offer include a 500sqm soft play structure (Go Play), which can cater for up to 150 children at any one time, and a 19-element vertical adventure climbing playground (Go Vertical).
There is also a party room and cafe, while the new 350sqm fitness suite will be opening on April 11.
Sally Church CEO of Torfaen Leisure Trust said that staff at the site have been told that the new facilities are “amazing fun” and that users see it as an opportunity to “build self confidence”.
She explained that nearly 160 people visited the stadium to see the works.
“We have also received some very constructive feedback about areas where we can make improvements, and I would like to thank our customers for taking the time to provide vital feedback," she added.
“I am delighted with the feedback we have received so far, and it is a joy to see the faces of the children and the adults when they have their first sight of Go Play and Go Vertical it is so fulfilling.
She added that the facilities are a “great way of getting more people more active in a way that is fun”.
Phase two of the works will convert the current grass pitch into a 3G surface.
The trust board approved the proposals at the start of 2014 and the works started at the stadium last December.
The trust has worked on a commercial funding package from the private banking sector for the project, which is expected to cost around £2m.
