CHARITY fundraising at an Undy sports club has so far collected more than £4,000 – and members want to raise more.
Tracy Stafford, who works at Undy Athletic Football Club on The Causeway, asked the club to raise cash for the Newport-based Sparkle charity because her son Coby uses it.
And of a Mr Undy show the club put on Saturday, March 28 she said: “It was amazing. It was one of the best nights we have had.”
Five contestants dressed up in costumes and performed the Village People’s YMCA at the end of the show.
Mrs Stafford said: “They had categories of different clothes to wear. It was not about the muscles, it was about the fun.
“We have just got good support and everybody supports the cause. They are such good fun. We are giving them a good night and they are putting their hands in their pockets.”
And club member Mike Woods, who took part in Mr Undy, said of the club: “They all help out as much as they can. They all chip in for one another.”
Funds from the night were split between the appeal for Sparkle and Help the Heroes.
The next fundraiser at the club, for which all proceeds will go to Sparkle, will be a Caribbean cocktail night held on May 16. Music will be provided by Minty Squirrel and adult tickets are £5. Children get in free.
