UPDATE: 9.52am
A NEWPORT man says he could not believe his eyes when he found a piece of wood inside his frozen meal.
John Foran, of Partridge Way in Duffryn, said he was horrified to discover the five-inch, blue-tinted timber in his Iceland chicken tikka biryani stir-fry as his wife, Nita, was preparing his dinner on Tuesday night.
The £2 ready meal was bought at the Iceland Foods store at Spytty Retail Park within the last two weeks or so by his wife.
The retired 59-year-old said: “I can’t understand how it could’ve gone into it. When my wife put it in the stir-fry dish, she thought it was a big piece of veg.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was a piece of wood with splinters coming off it.
“It was £2 but that’s beside the point — it should not be in your food.
“I contacted Iceland and all they said was take it back to the shop and that they’ll be in touch. But I want people to know what could be in their food.”
An Iceland spokeswoman said: “We are sorry to hear about this issue and would like the chance to investigate.
“If the customer would like to contact our Iceland customer care team on 01244 842842 we would be happy to investigate the matter further.”
