A GERMAN man who visited Gwent in an attempt to uncover more about his grandfather - who he believes was from Pontypool - is seeking further information.
Dawid Schlordt, 28, who lives in Rendsburg, has undertaken a search for the last year to find out more about Alan George Davies, who he believes had a relationship with his grandmother, Elke Hinz, who is now 80, in 1958 and 1959.
From that relationship, Mr Schlordt’s father Jörg was born, but he never met Mr Davies, who was stationed in Kiel.
On trying to find his father in the 1980s, Jorg was told he had died. Further research carried out by his son suggests Mr Davies died on January 1961.
Mr Davies’ birth certificate, which Mr Schlordt has obtained, shows he was born on Queen Street in Pontypool in April 1934, to Eliza Ann Davies and Wilfred Davies, who worked as a labourer.
Mr Davies was working as a wireless operator in the Royal Navy and studied at the University of Cambridge.
Anyone who might have known Mr Davies is asked to contact Mr Schlordt on dawid-schlordt@t-online.de
