AN EVENT will be held in Newport in the summer to give youngsters the chance of taking part in a triathlon.
The Tata – Kids of Steel triathlon events form part of Tata Steel’s community partnership programme, which supports future generations in areas the company is based. The Newport leg will be held at Newport International Sports Village on July 9 and is open to children aged eight to 13.
The events begin on May 19 in Scunthorpe and visit places including Mold, Sheffield and Workington. The final event will be held at the London Aquatics Centre and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. Tata Steel’s director of corporate communications and public affairs, Sytske Seyffert said: “Tata – Kids of Steel gives youngsters of all abilities the chance to participate in sport in a fun and safe environment.”
The chief executive of British Triathlon, Jack Buckner said: “The Tata – Kids of Steel triathlon series is a hugely successful product for the sport, breaking down the traditional barriers to taking part. It is great to continue the long-standing work we do with Tata Steel, and we are also delighted that the series will once again be delivered by our charitable arm, the British Triathlon Trust, which was set up to help us inspire a generation.”
