AN EXHIBITION in Cwmbran is currently capturing over fifty years of painting by a Gwent artist.

John Selway's Trans Iberia exhibition is on show at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre and will remain there until May 9.

The series of work in the exhibition covers a period of around fifty years, from the 1960’s to present, and roams some incredible scenes from the French/Spanish Basque Country, to the beaches on the Portuguese Atlantic coat and the Costa Del Sol.

Living and working in Abertillery, Mr Selway attended Newport College of Art and later at the Royal College of Art, and after achieving a University of London Boise Travelling Scholarship, he went to paint in Portugal for two years.

Always working from memory, he has often ventured far and wide in search of suitable subject matter.

He is a tutor at both Newport and Carmarthen Art Colleges, and his work includes abstraction, and drawing inspiration from literature and from the landscape.

His primary concern still remains the human condition though.

At the centre on May 2, there will be a conversation with Mr Selway and the Arts Council of Wales director David Alston. It is free to attend and starts at 11am.
