VOLUNTEERS helping to clean up Pill are looking for funding.
The Pride in Pill group who help to clean up litter in Pill met with cllr Matthew Evans, Mayor of Newport, at the Mayor's parlour who thanked them for their efforts. The group take part in litter picks to clean up the area to help combat the effects of fly tipping.
The group was set up by Pill resident Paul Murphy last summer and now has eight members.
Mr Murphy said: "It's going alright at the moment, we are getting about 60 people turning up to the big events which we put on every three months but we want to spread the word and get funding towards tools and CCTV cameras."
Lisa Wall, a volunteer, said: "It was really good to meet the mayor - he thanked us for the work we do in the community. The kids really enjoyed it.
"We want to encourage more adults and children to get involved."
The group are looking for more volunteers to help out - their youngest volunteers are Vienna Ridge, seven, and Ben Murphy, 13.
The next litter pick will take place on May 26 at 11am at the Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre. For more information email pamurp@aol.com or visit www.facebook.com/pages/Pride-in-pill/
