FOLLOWING last week's premiere of the film depicting the true fairytale of the Blackwood champion racehorse, Dream Alliance will return to the scene of his greatest victory this month at Chepstow racecourse.
The rags-to-riches story of Dream Alliance, a horse bred on a Blackwood allotment that went on to win the prestigious Welsh Grand National, has recently been captured in the documentary film Dark Horse. The film was premiered at the Maxime Cinema in Blackwood last week.
Now Dream Alliance is set to return to Chepstow Racecourse, the scene of his greatest victory, this Friday, where he will parade in-front of spectators after the second race at 5.30pm.
Dream Alliance who grew up with his mother on an allotment owned by Jan and Brian Vokes, in the tiny former mining village of Cefn Fforest saw early success on the racecourse.
The friendly chestnut horse quickly became a local and national phenomenon; but having scooped numerous wins, he suffered a near fatal injury when he severed his tendon at Aintree.
The prognosis did not look good and experts were certain he would never race again, but against all odds he survived and that was all that mattered to Mr and Mrs Vokes - all of his winnings went into the pioneering stem cell surgery and miraculously, he came back from the brink to win the Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow in 2009.
Phil Bell, Executive Director at Chepstow Racecourse commented: “It’s an unbelievable story and the fact that this horse came from such unassuming background is incredible.
“A number of staff here remember the day that Dream Alliance won the Welsh National at Chepstow, and are greatly looking forward to seeing him again on April 24.”
Dream Alliance has since retired from racing and now lives his life out of the limelight in the West Country. The film, Dark Horse, is in cinemas nationwide now.
The race meeting on Friday 24 April is the first evening fixture of 2015, and the last jumps meeting of the season (flat racing begins on Friday May 1).
