If you like the traditional singing and dancing of a great musical then this show should not be missed.
From silent movies to talking pictures, this production tells the story of the transition through its stars Stephen Hopkins (Don Lockwood) and Laura Harrington (Lina Lamont). Laura is delightful as the prima donna and Stephen Hopkins is superb as her leading man.
There are outstanding performances from Luke Williams as Cosmo Brown and Alys Le Moignan as singer Kathy Selden whose voice is used in the first talking film instead of the screeching tones of Lina. There were some lovely moments, especially Make em Laugh featuring Cosmo, and Don and Kathy's duet You Were Meant for Me. Comedy was provided by Brenda Maloney as the elocution teacher with Lina Lamont and the fast and furious tap dancing in Moses Supposes with Cosmo and Don.
Talking of dancing, the audience loved the colourful scene Beautiful Girl featuring pink feathers and sequins and the Good Morning song and dance routine with Cosmo, Don and Kathy.
But the highlights were the tap dancing by the whole cast in We Got To Dance and the finale Singin In The Rain with umbrellas, sou'westers and mackintoshes.
Director Debbie Harrington, in her first role, produced a first class spectacle. The show runs all week and tickets are available.
