A HAIRDRESSER is one of more than 30 Gwent ladies who have posed nude for a Calendar Girls-style calendar.

Janet Bourne, 53, manager of Hairlines in Abercarn, has always fundraised for Cancer Research UK after both her friend and her brother died of the disease in the same year three years ago.

So far Ms Bourne estimates she has raised around £8,000 for the charity through events including a black tie evening and a walk, but this year she wanted to try something different.

Last Saturday the hairdresser and 31 other women - ranging from 18 to 70 years old - met at Llanfach Village Hall and Community Centre in Abercarn.

Ellis Photography took the pictures for free as the women posed with a variety of props including a washing line and some boxes.

“Some of the girls were really brave and went completely nude but others kept their bottoms on,” said Ms Bourne.

Among the models was Paula Andrews and Donna Chandler who both work at the Florence Justice Residential Home in Newport.

Ms Bourne said: “I’m hoping the calendar’s going to come out in September, but we’re looking for sponsors or anyone who would be willing to print them for us for a good price”.
