TOO many cars are being parked in Blaenau Gwent with valuables on display, according to Gwent Police.
The warning comes after 17 cars in the area were targeted by thieves in the last two weeks. Abertillery have had five reports, Tredegar have had six, while there have been three reports each in Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale.
Matt Briggs, Blaenau Gwent Sergeant, said: “Our message is simple, take more care when leaving your car. Remember to move anything out of sight that could be considered to be of value or even better, take them with you.
“Cars are being targeted because the temptation is there for an opportunist thief. In some cases, the cars have been left unlocked or there has been forced entry. Stolen items include: make up and Sats Navs.
“With the warmer weather, motorists are becoming complacent and leaving windows open. In one case, a car was stolen when a driver left their ignition running while they popped back into the house. Please don’t take anything to chance!”
Officers are currently looking for your support and help by reporting any suspicious activity immediately by calling Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
