TORFAEN schoolgirls enjoyed a cricket skills day at Cwmbran Stadium yesterday.
The skills day was organised by the sports development department of Torfaen County Borough Council in conjunction with Cricket Wales.
Pupils from Blaenavon Primary School, Henllys CIW Primary School, Padre Pio Roman Catholic Primary School, New Inn Primary School, Ysgol Bryn Onnen and Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary School all attended the cricket skills day.
A total of 65 school girls took part in the skills day, with the hope they will be encouraged to sign up for their local teams.
The action-packed day of activities was in preparation for a cricket festival on June 18 at Panteg Cricket Club, where between 10 and 12 schools will be competing in quick cricket with the two winners going through to the South Wales Regional Final at Radyr Cricket Club.
Andrew Peacock, sports development officer for Torfaen Council, said all the girls taking part learnt something new and enjoyed taking part.
“They enjoyed the challenge and got to learn a new range of skills,” he said.
“All the activities they did were based around the three aspects: batting, bowling and fielding.”
