BLAENAVON singer Cai Williams - fresh from his appearance on TV show The Voice - will headline the 2015 World Heritage Day in Blaenavon.
Mr Williams, who grew up in Blaenavon, impressed Sir Tom Jones with a powerful rendition of License to Kill, and was chosen by the veteran entertainer to join his team of singers.
The former Abersychan pupil went on to compete in the battle round of the TV talent show, with the winner of this year's competition being Scottish rock singer Stevie McCrorie.
Since the show, Mr Williams has been busy planning his fourth album and a UK tour titled Cai - The Power Within.
He said: “Appearing on the Voice and being mentored by Sir Tom Jones was a truly fantastic experience and I loved every minute of it.
“The support I received from everyone who watched the show back home in Blaenavon was phenomenal and I am looking forward to doing what I do best, and putting on a great show for them as part of World Heritage Day.”
World Heritage Day in Blaenavon is being held on Saturday, June 27 June from 11am until 4pm. It includes a Victorian fun fair, a miniature steam railway, live music, craft stalls and the shops in town will also be getting involved with special offers.
As always the highlight of the day will be the Heritage Costume Parade which starts at 1pm from the top of Broad Street and proceeds through the town.
The theme for this year’s parade is World Heritage Sites Around the World, celebrating Blaenavon’s own World Heritage Site status, and the special cultural and natural significance of other sites across the globe.
Chairman of the World Heritage Committee, Gareth Davies, said: “It will be great to welcome Cai to a return show in his hometown as part of World Heritage Day, and wonderful to see the richness of Blaenavon’s World Heritage in amongst scenes from around the World.”
There will be a community drop in session on Saturday, May 9, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and 1.30pm to 3.30pm, at Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary for those interested in working with creative artists to make costumes for the parade and learn some new skills.
