A GOVILION pensioner who was reported missing earlier today was found thanks to the help of Abergavenny’s mountain rescue team.
Longtown Mountain Rescue Team was asked to join the search for Jessie Jones by Gwent Police at lunchtime today.
Teams of the highly trained volunteers combed the hillside near the Goose and Cuckoo Pub, at Upper Llanover.
Miss Jones was found by local farmer Vicky Williams, of Hendre Glyn Farm, at 2.45pm.
Mrs Williams heard there had been a sighting of Miss Jones near her farm so went out on a quad bike to search for her.
She raised the alarm and Longtown MRT went to meet Miss Jones with a stretcher and medical aid.
Miss Jones was well enough to walk and was supported off the hillside to a waiting ambulance.
Hazel Highfield, search manager from Longtown MRT, said: “Thanks to the vigilance of a local farmer this search ended happily.
“Miss Jones had spent the night on the hillside in rain and very cold temperatures for this time of year. We are all relieved she is safe and delighted for her family.”
