A GROUP of young adults and children will create a mosaic from their own mental health experiences which will be showcased in Newport city centre.
Newport Mind and the Can Do Project from Leonard Cheshire Disability charity will work over coming months to support a group made up of people from 11 to 25-years-old. They will be encouraged to give their opinions on what they have experienced from their own mental health, to raise awareness and challenge stigma.
According to a One Newport survey of young people in the city, nearly 40 per cent of young people under 21 said they never felt listened to by adults.
The chief executive of Newport Mind, Dave Bland, said: “The Mosaic group is an exciting new course from Newport Mind which we hope will get enough support to become a regular programme for young people who’ve experienced poor mental health in Newport.
“Now more than ever before it is important to support young people to share their views and to challenge stigma surrounding mental health, in a form that stands out and hopefully makes people stop and think when it eventually goes on display.”
