A FIFTEEN-year-old boy has been charged with arson following a grass fire in Newport.
Firefighters were called to the blaze on April 22 on the Hartridge Track behind Llanwern High School.
The teenager has been bailed to attend Cwmbran Youth Court on May 19.
A Gwent Police spokesman said: “Gwent Police would like to take the opportunity to reiterate the serious consequences of setting grass fires.
“Grass fires not only damage the countryside, wildlife and the environment, they present a danger to members of the public.
“Consequences for individuals, if convicted, can include a custodial sentence.”
Anyone who sees a grass fire should call 999. Anyone with information on those starting fires, should call 10.
