Six Villages - Brynawel, Cwmfelinfach, Wattsville, Wyllie, Ynysddu and Gelli Groes Teacher Retires: Ynysddu Primary sprung a surprise assembly on Mrs Guin James, who is retiring after a lifetime of teaching. Pupils past and present were able to share memories and to wish her a happy well-earned retirement.
Pupils from Pontllanfraith Compre-hensive, who had been taught by Mrs James, had been given special permission to attend the assembly.
Damage to Park Gate: Residents of Cwmfelinfach were shocked to wake up one morning to see a pillar on the entrance to Glan-y-nant Park had been knocked down.
Luckily the iron wrought gates had not been damaged, but has been taken down and put in safe storage, pending the repair to the pillar.
If anyone saw anything or knows how the damage occurred, contact me on the number above, or phone the Parks Department at the council.
News from Cwmfelinfach Primary: On Saturday, our Parents Association held a car boot sale and Easter raffle to help raise funds for the school. There was a good turn out and the weather stayed fine!
To celebrate Easter, our nursery children took part in a lovely Easter Bonnet Parade. They all made beautiful Easter bonnets, and then it was time for an Easter Egg Hunt in the playground.
On the last day before the holidays we had a special Easter assembly for the whole school.
Recently, 30 of our Year 5 and Year 6 children took part in a wonderful concert, singing with Caerphilly Schools Choir at St David's Hall in Cardiff. Pupils from all over Caerphilly took part.
Mrs Arthur and the staff were delighted with the children's superb behaviour.
Our school is part of the Pontllanfraith cluster of schools that feed into Pontllanfraith Comprehensive.
Competitions are organized on a regular basis and our football team thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a Cluster League competition at Pont Comp.
This Week 95 Years Ago: On April 15, 1912, in the old Flour Mill, in Gelli Groes, Arty Moore heard the distress call from the Titanic on his radio.
Although he went to the police station to report what he had heard, they were suspicious of the radio and did nothing. The rest, as they say, is history!
Sardis Community Association: A new class is starting at the Community Hall in Ynysddu.
For all those amateur photographers who want a professional look to their photos, why not go along to a ten-week digital photography class, starting on Monday, April 16, at 9.30am.
Sardis Chapel, Ynysddu: Sardis was full and overflowing at the service to celebrate the renovation of the chapel.
The Rev John Haywood, Minister of Moriah Baptist Church in Risca, gave the address, and Mr Allen Powell who is the Interim Moderator of Sardis conducted the service.
Wendy Roberts, who has worked tirelessly to bring about the renovation of the chapel wished to thank B.P. Builders of Newbridge and Geoff Williams the architect.
Also, Kevin Griffiths and Gemma Challenger, of Drumlord Ltd, Abercarn, for the wonderful stained glass windows and Ellis Willliams, of Newbridge, who did the leaflets for the service.
Wendy said people who come to the chapel are absolutely thrilled at the design and quality of the work. After the service everyone joined together for refreshments.
The road to Kosovo: Tina and her co-driver John, have now joined the convoy of lorries to Kosovo. Those who read my column last week will have seen the picture of the Kosovo team who have been hard at work over the past months to get everything ready for the trip.

Bingo in the Black: For all those bingo fans, why not try the new bingo session on Monday evenings at the Black Prince.
Bingo caller, Dean, says the first few weeks have gone well with a good crowd turning up. It starts around 9pm. It's a good laugh and somewhere to go on a Monday night.
