TODAY sees the start of a two-day event showcasing the role Wales - and this part of the country in particular - is playing in the digital revolution.

Almost under the radar, a cluster of innovative, hi-tech companies has grown up in south east Wales that have the potential to become as important to employment in this area as heavy industry was in the last century.

Digital 2015 begins at the Celtic Manor Resort today, and will bring together more than 1,300 people from all corners of the digital economy to learn, share ideas, make connections and develop business opportunities.

In its third year, it is the biggest event of its kind in Wales. The Argus, as media partner, is one of the sponsors of Digital 2015.

We are involved because much of what will be discussed over the next two days reflects the changes that have happened in the local newspaper industry in the last decade.

Producing a print newspaper is now just part of what we do.

Our digital output is read by tens of thousands of people every day on desktops, mobiles and tablets. Combined with our print readership, we now have a bigger audience than we had ten years ago.

Digital technologies now have an impact on almost all walks of life.

Our reports from Digital 2015 (live online, of course) will reflect that.
