POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered serious head injuries during an assault near Bettws Social Club.

The 44-year-old man was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital for treatment after the serious assault at midnight on Thursday, June 4.

The incident happened near the Bettws Social Club in Newport.

Two men in their twenties have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
