A GWENT company is urging its staff to get involved in the ‘Big Lunch’ initiative this week.
Coworking company Indycube, which has offices in Newport and Cwmbran, is getting involved in the initiative which aims to bring together neighbours and communities.
Now in its seventh year, Big Lunch is an Eden Project initiative funded by the Big Lottery Fund and partnered by the Halifax and ASDA.
Indycube aims to hold 10 successive Big Lunches taking place in its 17 different spaces across Wales between June 1 and June 12.
Indycube founder Mark Hooper came up with the idea to run a Big Lunch in each of its separate office spaces after hearing about how the initiative has really taken off across the UK, bringing neighbours closer together in communities up and down the country.
“I want everyone to take an hour out of their day over the next two weeks to eat lunch and chat with the people who work alongside them every day,” he said.
“While many people who work in our Indycube spaces know each other by name, it struck me that we probably don’t know very much more about the people we work next to day in, day out. “
Mark has set himself a challenge to attend as many of the 17 Big Lunches as possible, calling upon the help of his stepdaughter in the kitchen, to make sure he has something homemade to bring to each Big Lunch.
In 2014, a massive 4.83 million people took part in The Big Lunch, including 120 thousand in Wales.
