TWO Marshfield and District Royal British legion members were chosen to meet the Queen earlier today when she presented new colours to the regiment at the Millennium Stadium.
Terry and Pam Young, 64, of St Mellons, were selected by the Royal Welsh to meet Her Majesty during the ceremony in Cardiff.
Mr Young is a former Warrant Officer who served for 44 years with the Queens Regiment and the Royal Welsh.
He is also an active member of the Band and Drums Branch of the Royal Welsh Regimental Association holding the position of Branch Honorary Secretary.
Both Mr and Mrs Young are also active British Legion members and dedicate two weeks of their time each year in collecting for the Poppy Appeal.
The pair were delighted to be chosen to honour their contribution to the Legion and the Royal Welsh.
“We are meeting the Queen because we are part and parcel of the Royal Welsh,” Mr Young said, speaking before the event.
“I have met members of the Royal Family in the past but never spoken to them and my wife Pam has never met them, so it will be quite a thrill for Pam and, indeed, for me.”
Gwent Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator Mike Jones said:"We are very pleased that Terry and Pam have been selected to meet our Patron Her Majesty the Queen.
“Terry and Pam Young are both committed to the Royal British Legion giving great support to us throughout the year.
“They both put a great deal of time and effort into the annual Poppy Appeal each year. Meeting the Queen on Thursday will be a very proud day for them both.”
