Travellers stop near Matalan site (File picture)
UPDATE: A spokesman for Matalan confirmed the group had moved onto the store's car park last night but has now left the site.
A GROUP of travellers have set up camp near Newport.
Gwent Police said between 30 to 35 caravans arrived on private land near the Matalan site on Spytty Road overnight. A spokeswoman for the force said they were informed of their arrival early this morning.
Newport City Council said that it is not a matter for the council as the group are on private land.
