AHOY, me hearties! Pirate mania swept over a nursery earlier today, as toddlers made a splash going on a fancy dress walk to raise hundreds of pounds for the children’s charity Barnardo’s.
Bellevue Nursery in Bellevue Road, Cwmbran, staged the pirate themed day to entertain the kids and collected more than £400 in the process.
Around 65 youngsters aged up to four participated in craft activities at the nursery.
Nursery deputy manager Joanne Gill, 30, said: "It’s been really good. Children are really excited. Everyone got involved. We've have raised more than we intended to already and there is more to come in yet. It has been really successful.”
Staff at the nursery also organise events in support of Comic Relief and Children In Need, because the youths enjoy it so much.
Bellevue Nursery was recognised with a good Estyn report in 2011 and has a number of facilities including a baby room, tweenie room, toddlers' room and pre-school room.
The building was originally a place of worship which was turned into a purpose built nursery in 2002.
In 2010, due to growing demand for nursery place, a new extension was built to accommodate children under the age of two.
