NEWLY-KNIGHTED Wales rugby legend Sir Gareth Edwards and Newport’s Jamie Baulch were among those in attendance at the SIMEC Polo event at the Celtic Manor on Saturday.

More than 2,500 people watched two exhibition matches organised by the prestigious Cirencester Park Polo Club.

Former Wales rugby player Martyn Williams, Olympic athlete Derek Redmond and BBC sports present Jason Mohammad also took in an afternoon of the Sport of Kings.

The Only Way is Essex star Lydia Bright chose the glamorous occasion to launch her latest fashion collection alongside fellow co-star James Argent, and other celebrities attending included TV personalities Denise Van Outen and Josie Gibson.

Speaking at the event, Ms Bright said: “The crowds have been absolutely amazing and it’s incredible to see the polo up so close.

“Me and James actually met at a polo event seven years ago, so it wonderful to have him by my side today to cheer me on.”

As well as watching top-class polo, guests also participated in the traditional half-time custom of ‘treading the divots’ between matches and taking part in a best-dressed competition.

A fun family day out also included a polo village with bars and food outlets, live music between matches and the chance to sample spa treatments aboard the Elemis spa bus.
