A PONTYPOOL woman had the wedding of her dreams today despite the disruption the Velothon road closures caused.
Carla Phillips, from Griffithstown, and James Newby, from the Midlands, got married at Glen Yr Afon House Hotel in Usk this afternoon, with the bride’s wedding car having been escorted by two motorbikes.
Around 60 people made the event on time, despite the Usk to Little Mill Road, which comes to the entrance of the hotel, being closed to the public.
Carol Knight, the hotel’s wedding co-ordinator who has organised more than 1,000 weddings, said: “We never had a request like this and with the Velothon, it required more planning with every little detail. The pressure was really on “The marshal had to radio across to check over the bridge to make sure all the guests got through.
“The communication with Velothon was not fabulous and we had to bring in a lot more staff, but it all worked out superbly.”
