UPDATE: 2pm, June 17
Poppy has now returned home after spending the night in the vets.
Her owner, Rachael Trapp, said: "The fantastic team at Vets4Pets Newport, worked really hard on Poppy and managed to save her fur!
"She looks as good as new. She also has minor injuries to her back and back legs, from where she was pulled from the car. These should settle within a few days."
Shwe added: "She was a little quiet over night but seems back to her normal self today. We can't believe how lucky she was, she's definitely used one of her nine lives!
"It could of been a lot worse."
UPDATE: 9.43am
She has spent the night at the vets but will have to have her fur shaved off as it is coated in oil, said her owner Rachael Trapp. Rachael added: "She's going to be bald for some time I think. She won't forget it in a hurry."
UPDATE: 6.21pm
CREWS from Duffryn fire station rescued a distressed cat trapped in the engine compartment of a car in Gwenddwr Grange Close, Newport, earlier today.
They were called to the scene at 4.31pm.
Rachael Trapp, the owner of three-year-old 'Poppy' who was stuck in the car engine, said: "She is spending the night in the vets as she is coved in oil and has hurt her back legs.
"The vets seem to think she will need to be shaved tomorrow (Tuesday) to remove the oil from her."
