A 56-YEAR-OLD Newport van driver today admitted causing a man's death by careless driving in a crash in Gloucestershire.
Adrian Yates of Benbow Road in Ringland, pleaded guilty at Gloucester crown to causing the death of David Taylor, 69, of Newent, Gloucestershire, on October 10 last year.
Yates was driving a 7.5 tonne Iveco box van when he pulled out onto the A417 from the services area at Duntisbourne Abbots near Cirencester, the court was told.
Mr Taylor was driving a van which ran into the back of Yates' vehicle. He died at the scene.
Ian Dixey, defending, asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Yates and Judge William Hart agreed. He adjourned sentence till July 16 and granted Yates bail.
Mr Dixey said: "He simply failed to see the oncoming vehicle. An aspect of the case is that the junction is a very dangerous junction inasmuch as there is a road which comes in at 90 degrees and there is no slip road for any vehicle to get up to speed."
Judge Hart commented: "Mr Yates was driving very slowly at the time of the accident."
Mr Dixey added: "There doesn't seem to be any allegation against Mr Yates other than the failure to see what was coming."
Judge Hart granted Yates unconditional bail and told him all sentencing options remained open to the court.
