WALES footballer Gareth Bale is the latest star to sign up for the Celebrity Cup golf tournament at Celtic Manor.
After scoring a vital goal in Wales’ 1-0 win over Belgium on Friday, Bale confirmed he would be turning his to golf for the event on July 4-5.
Real Madrid star Bale, who became the world’s most expensive footballer when he transferred to the Spanish giants, will join a Welsh team captained by TV comic Rob Brydon and includes Wales’ newest knight, Sir Gareth Edwards.
Bale said: “When I’m back home in Wales, I really enjoy playing at The Celtic Manor Resort. I’m looking forward to pulling on a Wales shirt of the different kind in July and competing in the Celebrity Cup for the first time, hopefully we can win it back from England!
"We have got a strong squad, led by captain and comedian Rob Brydon and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the team and getting out on the course.”
Wales will compete against England, Ireland and Scotland in the four nations event.
Other celebrities taking part include TV presenters Vernon Kay, Ben Shephard, Gethin Jones and Zoe Hardman, Irish singing sensations Keith Duffy, Ronan Keating and Brian McFadden, and former Scottish footballing stars Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen and Gordon Strachan.
