TORFAEN council has said that it "will not tolerate" travellers at a site in Old Cwmbran.
The travellers, who are based in a car park near Victoria Street, have been told by the council that they must leave the site by Thursday lunchtime.
The car park is near a doctor's surgery and the Our Lady of the Angels Primary school.
A council spokesman said: "The council will not tolerate the use of this site which is not suitable as it serves the local school and doctor’s surgery.
"Officers have visited the site to assess the travellers needs in line with Welsh Government and council policy and will continue visiting on a regular basis to monitor public health and safety issues arising from the temporary camp."
