POLICE are warning residents in the Bettws and Pill areas to make sure sat navs and other valuables are hidden after 33 vehicles were damaged or broken into in the last four weeks.
Vehicles in: Allt yr yn, Pill, Gaer, Shaftsbury have all been affected.
Thieves have been stealing valuables such as sat navs which have been left on display or in glove compartments. In a third of all reports, the vehicles have had items stolen as a result of being left unlocked.
Inspector Neil Muirhead said: “We have seen a rise in these types of incidents over the last four weeks but despite our warnings to drivers, vehicles are still being left unlocked with valuables on display.
“If you lock your car and take valuables with you, most thieves won’t take the time or trouble to attempt to break into your car. I’m asking all residents to double check your cars are locked when you leave them and scan your vehicle to see if anything has been left on show which might appeal to a thief – things like coins, bags, documents and phones.”
If you see anyone suspicious in your local area, please call 101 with a description including any clothing they were wearing, the time you saw them, their approximate height and build and any distinguishing features. If you think a crime is taking place, please dial 999.
