A NEWPORT country house that played host to the Duke of Kent is being auctioned off for more than £500,000 on June 25.
Langstone Hall, a Georgian building at Tregarn Road in Langstone, has been owned by the local Kaid family for more than three decades.
The family, from Newport, ran SAK Steeworks in the city and bought the property for £125,000 in 1979.
The owner of the house, Marjorie Kaid, 77, has only decided to sell her home as she is moving to Spain and is due to have an operation on her hip.
She said: “It’s been a marvellous family home. I’ll never forget opening the door for the first time and seeing that white grand piano.
“But, with my hip, I just can’t get around like I used to. Siward Jones, who owned the house before us, hosted a wealth of colourful, high society parties through the years, which were frequented by the likes of the Duke of Kent, Prince Edward.”
Langstone Hall has four reception rooms and four bedrooms plus a one bed annexe. There are six further self-contained flats occupying the rest of the property, as well as an outdoor swimming pool.
The property, along with two parcels of land adjacent to the hall house, is being sold through Newport’s Paul Fosh Auctions.
The guide price for the building is £500,000 plus, while the six acres of grassland to the rear of Langstone Hall and the one acre of land at the front have guide prices of £55,000 and £85,000 respectively.
Langstone Hall will be put up for auction next Thursday at the Park Inn Hotel in Cardiff, starting 5pm.
