A RAPIST was convicted after his victim dialled 999 during the sex attack and the operator recorded her 17-minute ordeal.

Anthony Cronk, 43, was heard by a 999 operator carrying out the attack as his 22-year-old victim pleaded with him to stop.

Cronk, of Ebenezer Drive, Rogerstone, was jailed for four years after a judge listened to the telephone evidence of the rape.

Judge Eleri Rees said: “She can be heard begging, pleading with you, screaming at you to get off.

“It was graphic and distressing to listen to. There couldn’t have been a clearer indication that she is not consenting.

“At one point you ask her why she is screaming so much – completely ignoring what she is saying in the most emphatic terms.

“She is extremely distressed throughout.

“She couldn’t win the struggle with you because of your weight and your strength.”

Cardiff Crown Court heard the victim had dialled 999 but dropped the phone to the floor and Cronk carried on not knowing it was being recorded.

Prosecuting, Ian Kolvin said: “When she said she would report him to the police he said “no-one would believe her.”

“He didn’t know the operator was listening.”

He tried to claim to police that the sex had been consensual, but pleaded guilty after the tape was played to him.

Mr Kolvin said: “She described herself as being “six out of 10 drunk”.

“His full weight was on her and she couldn’t get him off. She can be heard telling him to stop. After he’d finished he got up and rolled a cigarette.”

Cardiff Crown Court heard he later pleaded guilty to rape.

His barrister Robin Shellard said he pleaded guilty to spare her the ordeal of giving evidence.

Mr Shellard said: “It was something he wrongly believed and didn’t take no for an answer.”

Cronk was jailed for four years and put on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.
