A NEWPORT man accused of a string of sexual offences in the 1970s forced one of his alleged victims to drink his urine, a jury heard yesterday.

Gerald Baker, aged 58, of Sudbury Walk, Newport, previously pleaded not guilty to six counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted rape at Cardiff Crown Court on March 5. He is on conditional bail.

The alleged offences date back to the 1970s when the defendant was a teenager.

The trial is being heard at Newport Crown Court, with the seven women and five men of the jury having been sworn in yesterday.

Outlining the prosecution’s case, prosecutor James Wilson said Baker before allegedly raping one of his victims gave her a beaker of his own urine which she thought was cloudy lemonade and made her take a “big gulp” of it.

In her police interview in 2013, which was played in court, the first victim, who was allegedly raped and indecently assaulted by Baker, said: “He told me I was special and that he loved me. I just thought it was normal.

“I thought sex was love and I was getting attention.

“It happened and it’s had an effect on my relationships."

The second victim, who Baker allegedly attempted to rape, said in her police statement: “He put his hand across my mouth to stop me screaming and I could feel the pressure of him trying to force it."

When interviewed by police in December 2013, Baker denied having any knowledge of the allegations.
