THE family of seven-year-old Carwyn Scott-Howell said they will be returning to the French skiing resort where their son tragically died in a bid to improve signage on the ski slopes.
Carwyn Scott-Howell died on April 10 this year when he fell 50 metres from a cliff on a blue run ski slope while on a family holiday in Flaine, France.
An inquest in Newport this morning into the seven-year-old's death found his death to be accidental from multiple injuries incurred during a fall.
His mum Ceri Scott-Howell gave evidence and said the family were frequent skiers and had been on holiday skiing four times in the last 14 months.
The inquest heard how Carwyn had been a proficient skier and had been skiing since he was three years old.
Mum Ceri Scott-Howell said the family were due to go home but had taken one last skiing trip.
Carwyn had been skiing ahead on the slope and mum Ceri shouted at him to stop while she had to attend to her daughter.
When she looked back he was gone and after a three and a half hour search his body was found.
In evidence, Mrs Ceri Scott-Howell said the French authorities told her Carwyn had skiied straight down instead of following the route round because of poor signage.
He had stopped because the snow was too deep and had sat down, but tragically slid off a cliff edge.
Coroner David Bowen called it a "tragic death".
