VOICE SINGER Cai Williams has visited Blaenavon Heritage School ahead of his performance at World Heritage Day this weekend.
Mr Williams, who grew up in the town and was part of Sir Tom Jones’ team on The Voice, was treated to a performance by the school choir before taking questions from the pupils about his time on the show.
He then opened the school’s annual fête and posed for photographs with the children and their parents.
He said: “I was blown away by Blaenavon Heritage School. The youngsters are extremely talented and the teachers go above and beyond their call of duty. The school also has some of the best facilities I have ever seen. I am now even more excited to be performing at World Heritage Day and am looking forward to putting on a good show for the crowds in my home town.”
World Heritage Day in Blaenavon takes place this Saturday (JUNE 27) from 11am-4pm. It includes a Victorian fun fair, a miniature steam railway, craft stalls and a variety of musical acts on the main stage. The Heritage Costume Parade starts at 1pm from the top of Broad Street. The theme for this year’s parade is World Heritage Sites Around the World, celebrating Blaenavon’s own World Heritage Site status, and the special cultural and natural significance of other sites across the globe.
Chairman of the World Heritage Committee, Gareth Davies, said: “It will be great to welcome Cai to a return show in his hometown as part of World Heritage Day, and wonderful to see the richness of Blaenavon’s World Heritage in amongst scenes from around the World.”
