RUGBY legends Martyn Williams, John Afoa and Andy Powell might be more used to carrying a rugby ball than kicking one, but that didn’t stop the trio taking part in an impromptu game of ‘keepy uppie’ at the Celtic Manor for charity this week.
The stars were attending a charity golf day hosted by recruitment specialists Centric, but briefly downed their clubs for the challenge when Centric promised to donate £100 to charity for every successful keepy uppie they made.
All Black superstar Afoa and Welsh rugby legends Williams and Powell clearly take the challenge seriously as a video on YouTube shows. Alas 36-times capped All Black prop Afoa finds his giant frame doesn’t quite help him as he only musters four kicks.
Welsh stars Williams and Powell though prove they’re just as good with the ball at their feet as they both hit double figures. To find out which one won the competition watch this film:
The spontaneous kick around raised more than £2,000 for Centric’s chosen charity, Casey’s Cause, with thousands more raised throughout the day.
Dave Matthews, Operations Director at Centric Recruitment, said: “Martyn, Andy and John were fantastic taking part in the challenge. It’s not easy playing keepy uppie with a rugby ball, but they made a great effort and have definitely lost none of their talents. We’d like to say a big thank you to them and all of the businesses that attended for raising such a huge amount of money for a wonderful cause.”
