AROUND 80 jobs will be up for grabs at the Debenhams store in Newport's Friars Walk shopping centre next month.

A jobs fair will be held in Newport job centre on Charles Street as the high street giant looks to fill around 80 posts as the store gets set to open on November 12.

Dai Morgan, employer relationship manager at the South EastWales Job Centre Plus, said it was ‘great news for Newport.’

“The manager [of Debenhams] came down and had a session with our staff,” he said.

“We are looking at about 80 jobs plus Christmas temps as it is that time of year.

“The store will open on November 12 along with the rest of Friars Walk.”

Management positions have already been advertised and the bulk of the remaining positions will be advertised on the Debenhams website from July 9- the same day as the recruitment open day.

Jobs available include sales and product advisors, restaurant positions, loyalty card staff, along with stock management staff.

However Mr Morgan said the majority of positions are on the sales floor.

A Debenhams careers event will be held at the Newport Job centre on July 9 from 10am to 4pm.

The day will involve meeting Debenhams staff who will provide information and advice on working at Debenhams and the positions available.

Job centre staff will also be on hand to help those who want to apply online there and then, using the job centre computers.

Applicants are advised not to bring C.V’s as applications will only be accepted via the online application process.
